Metalworker by trade. Worked in Lugansk, Aleksandrovsk and Saint St. Petersburg. From 1912 active in trade-union movement.
Party work in various Russian cities. Repeatedly subjected to reprisals by Tsarist authorities. After 1917 October Revol fought in Civil War on the Don and in the Ukraine.
Member, underground Central Committee, Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ukraine. 1920 chairman, Lugansk Province Executive Committee. Later trade-union and government work.
From 1920 member, Central Committee, Metalworkers’ Union. Presidium member, All-Union Central Executive Committee. Presidium member, All-Union Centr Trade-Union Council.
1920-1921, during trade-union controversy, one of the leaders of the “workers’ opposition”. 1921 relieved of trade-union exec work and appointed Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic deputy trade representative in Germany.
