Graduated from the Moscow Technological Institute of the Fishing Industry 1959.
Sphere of scientific interests: population, ecology, evolution, and biochemistry of genetics. An employee of the Karadag Biological Station of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in 1959-1962 and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in 1962-1967. Since 1972 worked in the Institute of General Genetics named after N.I. Vavilov (since 1992 the director). He theoretically and experimentally substantiated new approaches to the conservation and rational use of biological resources, developed a concept of optimal genetic diversity of populations, deciphered the contribution of the genotype to the phenomenon of human acceleration. He created a scientific school in the field of the population of genetics. Editor-in-chief of the journal "Success of Modern Biology", also wrote 4 monographs.
