At the age of 12, Yushi Koyama graduated from Higashi Jou Elementary School. He became a student of Keio University in 1924, and after graduation in 1931, the dramatist became a pupil of Mantaro Kubota and then of Kunio Kishida.
Yushi Koyama graduated from Keio University Law School, he found employment at the sales department of Sakurada Machinery Company in Ginza.
His first play titled "Children on the Inland Sea of Seto" was staged at Tsukiji Theater in 1935. This established his fame. Most of his dramas tell of life in the Inland Sea of Seto.
Also Yushi Koyama wrote for the movies and radio. A collection of his plays has been published under the title "Illuminating Women".
