In 1927 he entered Preparatory Department of Nippon University but his devotion first to anarchism and then to Marxism caused his expulsion from school in 1930. Later teamed up with Saneki Matsumoto and others and published Nomm Toso (Struggle of Peasants); arrested (1932), After being converted to Communism wrote novels. After war took part in founding of Kindai Bungaku (Modern Literature) Magazine.
