He received his Doctor of Philosophy in 1962 in organic chemical technology, and then pursued postdoctoral study at the University of Michigan.
In 1958 he received a degree in chemical technology at the Faculty of Technology in Zagreb, where he also started working in 1960 at the Organic Chemical Industry. From 1966 until his retirement in 1992 he worked at Dow Chemical Company in the United States and was engaged in the development and production of polymeric materials. He authored numerous scientific and technical papers and 13 patents.

In 2010, Ježić"s name was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Ježić was a prominent water polo player and a member of Mladost Zagreb. In 1960 he was a member of the Yugoslav team which finished fourth in the Olympic competition.
