Zelig Segal is one of Israeli`s most creative designers of ceremonial objects. Raised with a religious upbringing, his approach is both practical and unconventional.
Aslo eaned renown as a Minimalist sculptor and a painter in an Abstract Expressionist style.
Background
Segal was born in 1933 in Jerusalem and received a religious upbringing, educated in Yeshiva. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art in 1949, and was awarded a scholarship through David Ben-Gurion. In 1964 he became the head of the gold and silver smith department of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, where he worked till 1968.
In 1987 Segal was awarded Jesselson Prize for Contemporary Judaica Design, by The Israel Museum.
Segal participated in major group exhibitions: The Tel-Aviv Museum in 1975, The Bertha Urdang Gallery New York in 1981, and the Israel Museum Jerusalem in 1881, 1982.
Many of his works are part of permanent exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The University Museum New York and The Israel Museum of Jerusalem Israel.
Career

1955`s first prize in the design of Hebrew University logo;
1964`s first prize for the design of the poster for 26th Zionist Congress logo;
1966`s the first prize for design of commemorative coin in honor of the 18th anniversary of the State of Israel;
1968`s first prize for the design of the ” Peace coin” of the Bank of Israel;
1969`s first prize for design in jewelry for Israel’s Institute of Technology.
Many of his works are part of permanent exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The University Museum New York and The Israel Museum of Jerusalem Israel.
