Zenni Ike was born in Kyoto, the daughter of Munekane Fujiwara.
It is said that when Yoritomo Minamoto was in difficulties during the Heiji-no-ran (1159) she begged Kiyomori to save his life, pleading successfully that Yoritomo resembled her dead son, Iyemori.
She was the second wife of Tadamori Taira, Kiyomori father to whom she bore two sons, Iemori and Yorimori.
