1921 graduated Medical Faculty, Don University, now Rostov State Medicine Institute.
1925 organized Dept, of Bacterial Biochemistry at Bakh Biochemical Institute, Moscow. 1941-1945 used antibiotics at front, and earlier determined effects of lysozyme on bacteria, established its chemical nature, proved that it was a factor in natural immunity, developed a method for its extraction and concentration, introduced it into medical practice and discovered its sources (radishes, horse radish, turnip). With L. M. Yakobson isolated and successfully used special bacteriophage for cholera prophylaxis.
1942 developed Soviet penicillin and other antibiotics. Eemolin (from fish tissues), eemonovocillin, bicillin and novocillin, etc. 1947 developed first samples of Soviet streptomycin.
Set up a new laboratory Institute of Antibiotics for research and study of antibiotics of animal origin. Works deal mainly with cholera vibrion, improved cholera diagnosis and various antibacterial agents, especially bacteriophages and antibiotics. 1921-1925 Assistant, Chair of Microbiology, Rostov State Medicine Institute.
And associate, North Caucasian Bacteriological Institute. 1925-1941 Head,Department of Bacterial Biochemistry, Biochemical Institute, USSR Popular Commissariat of Health. 1941-1945 Director, Stalingrad Institute of Biological Prophylaxis of Infections.
