He attended Exeter University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology and an Master of Arts in the philosophy and psychology of language.
He has published three books and as of 2013 was Deputy Managing Director and Executive Vice President / Global Publishing at SAGE Publications. Marar joined SAGE in the 1980s where he has been an editorial director and, in 2006, Deputy Managing Director and Publishing Director. In 2010 he became director of global publishing.
