Studied at university.
1895 joined revol movement. Member, “Workers’ Banner” group. 1899 expelled from university for participating in student riots.
Became professional revolutionary. 1901 arrested in Vilnius for connection with Social-Democratic Workers’ Library. After his released sided with “Iskra” group.
Late 1901 again arrested. May 1902 exiled to Irkutsk Province. November 1902 fled from exile and settled in Yekaterinoslav, running an underground printing press
May 1903 arrested and imprisoned for 2 1/2 years. 1905—May 1906 worked in Vilnius. Member, Vilnius Party Committee.
July 1906 arrested in Saint St. Petersburg. Imprisoned until February 1907, then exiled for three years to Turinsk, Tobol’sk Province. Moved to Tyumen’, set up underground printing press and served on Tyumen’ Party Committee.
1909 re-arrested after collapse of Tyumen’ Party organisation. February 1910 ended term of exile and worked for six months in Baku. Late 1910— February 1913 lived illegally in Saint St. Petersburg and served as member, Saint St. Petersburg Party Committee.
Arrested and exiled to Narym. 1914 fled from exile and went to Moscow ¡July 1914 arrested and sentenced to two years fortress arrest. From October 1916 worked in Moscow.
After 1917 February Revol member, ed staff, newspapers “Sotsialdemokrat” then “Pravda”. Fought in 1917 October Revol in Moscow. 1918, during Brest Peace Treaty controversy, sided with Leftist Communists.
Worked for People's Commissariat of Justice. From 1920 member, Parly Centr Control Commission. 1921-1934 Presidium member, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Centr Control Commission.
1921 member, Centr Verification Commission. From 1921 member, Supreme Court. Member, International Control Commission.
Worked for Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Public Prosecutor’s office. Delegation at 17th and 9th—17th All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Congresses. At 9 th— 15 th Congresses elected member, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Centr Control Commission.
