Abdul Karim Bangura was born on August 26, 1953 in Bo, Sierra Leone. He is the son of Ali Kunda and Fatmata (Jalloh) Bangura. He is a naturalized citizen of the United States.
Abdul Bangura attended Independence Primary School in Sierra Leone. Later, he attended the Independence Secondary School near Freetown.
Bangura received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Northern Virginia Community College in 1978. Four years later he was given a Bachelor and a Master of Arts by American University. In 1983 he was awarded a Master of Science degree by Stockholm University.
Abdul also got a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Howard University in 1987, a Master of Science in Linguistics from Georgetown University in 1989, a Doctor of Philosophy in Policy Sciences from the University of Maryland in 1990 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics from Georgetown University in 1992.
Bangura received a diploma in computer programming from Foley-Belsaw Institute in 1998. He also studied in Italy.
Abdul Bangura began his career in 1975 in Army and Air Force Exchange Services as a services supervisor. From 1979 to 1980 he served as a manager in McDonald's. Six years later he was appointed as a researcher of Brookings Institution. At the same time, he was an adjunct professor of business and marketing studies at Sojourner-Douglass College. Abdul worked there till 1990.
From 1989 to 1992 he was an adjunct professor of Howard University and at the same time a co-director of Alcohol Intervention Institute. In 1998 he was appointed as a professorial lecturer at the same university.
In 1991 Bangura began to work in National Education Center as an instructor in business technologies and management. In two years he became an assistant professor of political science of Bowie State University. He remained in this position till 2000.
From 1994 to 1998 Bangura was a member of the Intergovernmental Relations Task Force in the Office of the Mayor. For two years Abdul had been working as a Schiff Summer Program Professor at Georgetown University.
In 1999 Bangura was a professorial lecturer at American University and in 2000 became a professor of international relations. Since 1999 he has been a researcher in residence at Center for Global Peace, coordinator of Islamic lecture series, founding director of Center for Success and a mentor of Journal of Mentoring and Field Experience.
In 2000 Abdul Bangura occupied the post of co-director of International Communication and Negotiation Simulations Project at University of Maryland. He also was a member of the advisory board for the Center for Development and Security Analysis at Fourah Bay College at the University of Sierra Leone in 2005.
Abdul served as an academic associate at the Atlantic Council of the United States in 1995 and a director of African Institution in 1989. Since 1997 he has worked as a coordinator of Topp's Annual African-Centered Awards in Topps Gourmet Sauce, Inc. Abdul is a frequent guest on television and radio programs.
Abdul Karim Bangura also is a contributor to books, including Divisive Barbarity or Global Civilization: The Ethical Dimensions of Science, Art, Religion, and Politics, edited by M. L. Bradbury and Suheil Bushrui, and Islam arid Trade in Sierra Leone, edited by Alusine Jalloh and David Skinne.
He is also a contributor of articles and reviews to periodicals, including Chronicle of Higher Education, Black Enterprise, Resources in Higher Education, Spectrum, Journal of Third World Studies, International Journal of the Sociology of Language, International Journal of Sierra Leone Studies & Reviews, Washington Post, and Africa Today.
Nowadays Dr. Bangura is a professor of Research Methodology and Public Policy in the Department of Political Science and coordinator of the National Conference on Undergraduate Research initiative at Howard University.
Abdul Karim Bangura has been listed as a notable Academic administrator, researcher, scientist by Marquis Who's Who. He holds 5 doctorate degrees, speaks 18 languages and has published 66 books and over 600 research papers.
Abdul has a certificate of achievement from the Caribbean Association of Professionals and Scholars in 1996, a certificate of appreciation from Japan-America Student Conference in 2000 and grants from the U.S. Department of Education and National Science Foundation.
