Abdullah Suriosubroto was born in 1878 in Semarang, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. He was the adopted son of Wahidin Sudirohusodo, a prominent figure of the Indonesian national movement.

Following in the footsteps of his adoptive father, Abdullah entered medical school in Batavia (now Jakarta). Then he went on to study in the Netherlands. There, he turned to the art of painting and entered art school.
Upon his return to Indonesia after studying art in the Netherlands, Abdullah continued his career as a painter. Unfortunately, practically nothing is known about his artistic career or private life. Abdullah was seen as the first Indonesian painter in the 20th century and his favorite painting object was the scene. Moreover, he was included in a stream dubbed "Mooi Indie" that can be translated as "Beautiful Indies." Abdullah Suriosubroto had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Art:1. It is also known that he stayed for several years in Bandung to be close to nature that he enjoyed painting. Then Suriosubroto moved to Yogyakarta, where he died in 1941.
