Akao Yoshio

Background

Akao Yoshio was born in Yamanashi Prefecture.

Education

In 1931 he graduated from the Tokyo School of Foreign Languages.

Career

Founded and became president of the Obun-sha Publishing House. His firm specialized in publications designed mainly for high school students preparing for university entrance examinations. It made a hit, and his firm became one of the representative publishing houses in the country. He was purged in 1947, but depurged in 1949. He was concurrently the President both of the AllJapan Hunters’ Association and of the Japan Rifle-Shooters' Association.

Achievements

• After World War II, he established a private radio station “Bunka Housou”. Its broadcasts included a radio seminar for university entrance examinations. The seminar included several popular lecturers, including, J.B.Harris, Ichirou Tajima and Jin’ichi Konishi.
