Akira Okamoto taught at Shimei Normal School and Sakai Middle School and there after graduated from Japanese Literature Department of Kyoto University (1928).
Akira Okamoto taught at Yamaguchi Girls' High School and then became chief professor at Japanese Language Department of Hiroshima Higher Normal School (1929) which later became Hiroshima University. He became editor of Kotodama (The Soul of Language), a waka magazine (1935). Appointed superintendent and director of Hiroshima Higher Normal School, member of Council for Books for Teaching and trustee of Hiroshima University (1949).
