Kinjiro Sontoku was a famous Japanese scientist, educator, agronomist and philosopher of the Edo period (XIX century). Within Japan, it is known as "Kindiro". The complete collection of works of Kinjiro consists of 36 volumes.
Kinjiro Sontoku was born in Sagami Province. Originally named Kinjiro.He entered the employof Hattori family, councilors to Lord of Odawara.
In his early years Sontoku studied on his own.
Shogunate with the job of rehabilitating 89 villages in Nikko. Kinjiro Sontoku worked on this project for 15 years following a system of his own and managed to restore prosperity to them. His system which came to be called Hotokukyo, helped to save hundreds of villages from ruin.
He saw agriculture as the highest form of humanity because it was the cultivation of resources given by the Kami.
