Student Columbia, 1918-1919, National Academy of Design, 1919-1923, L. Fontainebleau (France) Ecole des Arts, summer 1923, L.C. Tiffany Foundation, Oyster Bay, Long Island, summers 1921-1928. Honorary visiting fellow American Academy in Rome, 1923-1924.
He also had architectural expertise and submitted work to Architectural Record. He eventually became The New Yorker"s most prolific illustrator, creating nine covers and nearly 2000 cartoons over 47 years. A cartoon of his is credited with inspiring the Fermi Paradox.
Dunn and Petty donated their papers to Syracuse University.
