Aleksander Emanuelovich Belenson was born on January, 26 1890 (O.S. January, 14) in Minsk into a wealthy Jewish family, and was christianised when he was a teenager.
In 1907, Aleksander Emanuelovich received a matriculation certificate at Larino Gymnasium in Saint Petersburg, where he studied for one year. In 1907-1911 he studied at the Faculty of Law of Saint Petersburg University, he passed state exams in 1912 at Kharkiv University (now National University of Kharkiv).
In 1914-1917 Aleksander Emanuelovich served as an assistant of the attorney at the Saint Petersburg Court of Justice. He published poetry since 1910: in the "Satyricon", then in the Kiev magazine "Muses". Aleksander Emanuelovich gained fame as the editor and publisher of the almanac "Strelets".
