Tusquets was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and studied philosophy, literature and history at the University of Barcelona. She spent several years teaching literature and history at the Carillo Academy. She was the director of the publishing house "Lumen" in Barcelona.

Tusquets suffered from Parkinson's disease for several years, died of pneumonia at the age of 75 in Barcelona on 23 July 2012.


After university, together with her brother Oscar Tusquets, she took over and ran the publishing brand Lumen. In 1978 she published her first work 'The same sea as every summer', which won the City of Barcelona award. This is the first instalment of a trilogy which also includes 'Love is a solitary game' and 'Stranded'. After her debut work and until recently she combined her publishing work with writing and translation. Her work features an original combination of fiction and biography told in a distinctive and unique feminine voice.
