Arnshtam, Aleksandr was born in 1881.


Considered one of the best graphic artists of his time. Became widely known for his satirical cartoons in the magazine Signal during the 1905 Revolution. Lived in Petersburg,1919.

Edited Pushkin’s works. Arrested by the Cheka, 1919-1920. Wrote a diary of his prison experiences.

Moved to Moscow, 1920. Illustrated books by Pushkin, Briusov, Lunacharskii and others. Moved to Berlin,1920, active in the flourishing Russian publishing business in that city in the 1920s.
