Background

Arutiunian, Aleksandr was born on September 23, 1920 in Erevan, Armenia.

Education

Graduated in composition and piano from the Erevan Conservatory, 1941. Pupil of V. Talian, S. Barkhudarian and O.Babasian.

Career

Perfected his art at the Moscow Dom Kultury. Performed his own works as a soloist. Artistic director of the Armenian Philharmonic from 1954.

Taught composition at the Erevan Conservatory from 1964. Professor, 1971. Work characterized by the use of Armenian folk melodies.
