1911 graduate General Staff Academy.
Fought in Russo-Japanese War and World War 1. 16 July—15 September 1917 commanded Moscow Military district. 16 September 1917 promoted major-general and appointed Minister of War, Provisional Government.
Advocated partial demobilization of army and Russian withdrawal from World War 1. These proposals were rejected by the Pre-Parliament and 3 November 1917 he was dismissed from his post. 17 November 1917 went to Headquarters and tried to establish a “Democratic Anti-Bolshevik Government”.
1918 arrested by All—Union Extraordinary Commission Against Counterrevolution, Sabotage and Speculation, but was soon released. 1919 joined Red Army and served with rear units and on Eastern Front. 1921-1930 lectured at Red Army Military Academy.
1922 military expert with Soviet deleg at Genoa Conference. 1930-1932 chief of staff North Caucasian Military district.
Then lectured on “Vystrel” Courses and at General Staff Academy and served on General Staff. 1937 arrasted by State Security organs.
