Also Alexeev held the post of Director of the 3rd Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, worked as a Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE (the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) in Vienna (the Republic of Austria). From the twenty-ninth of March, 1999 till the twenty-ninth of September, 2001 he was a member of the Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Since August, 2004 he has worked as a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and has been responsible for relations with Asian countries and issues of multilateral cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. On the third of January, 2007 he was appointed Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
