Gerard Batliner

Gerard Batliner was Head of Government of Liechtenstein, attorney-at-law and publicist. He presided over the Liechtenstein parliament and was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights.

He is also the author of numerous books on the legal system of Liechtenstein.

Background

BATLINER, Gerard was born on December 9, 1928 in Eschen. Son of Andreas and Karolina Batliner.

Education

Gerard Batliner studied law and philosophy at Fribourg University. In 1957 he got Doctor of Law (Dr. iur.) degree. He also received honorary degrees from from the Universities of Basel and Innsbruck.

Career

President Progressive Burgher Party 1958-1962. Vice-Mayor of Eschen 1960-1962. Head of Government, of Principality of Liechtenstein 1962-1970.

President Liechtenstein Pari. 1974-1978, Vice-President 1978-1982. Head of Liechtenstein Pari.

Delegate to the Council of Europe 1978-1982. A Vice-President Pari. Assembly, Council of Europe, session 1981-1982.

Chairman Scientific Council of Liechtenstein Institute since 1987.

The Progressive Citizens' Party in Liechtenstein is a conservative and Christian democratic political party and the second largest party in the Landtag of Liechtenstein.
