Entered Rifle Brigade, 1855. Exchanged to King’s Royal Rifle Corps, 1871. Deputy-Assistant-Adjutant-General for musketry, India, 1870-1877.
Deputy - Assistant - Quarter master-General throughout Afghan war, and afterwards in India.
Mentioned in despatches. Brevets of Major and Lieutenant-Colonel.
Medal and 2 clasps.
Commanded 2nd and 4th Battalion King’s Royal Rifles, and afterwards three 2nd class districts in India, and 1st Brigade Chitral Relief Force (medal and clasp). Retired under age clause, 1895, with honorary rank of Major-General in recognition of sendees in the Army.
Decorated for service in the field Doctorate.L., Justice of the Peace. Retired pay.
