KING, Alexander James was born on July 15, 1803. Son of late Reverend Edward King, Bachelor of Arts, F.R.H.S., Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries Scot.

Studied at Radley College.
Career
Joined the King’s Own Regiment 1884. Captain 1892; Major, 1902. Served with Egyptian Army in Camel Corps in Dongola Expedition, 1896.
Nile Expedition, 1897.
Khartoum Expedition, 1898 (despatches three times, order of 4th class Medjidie, Brevet-Major). Appointed Aide-de-camp to Lieutenant-General Sir Archibald Hunter, Knight Commander of the Bath, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, in India, and in the South African Campaign in 1899, was present during the siege of Ladysmith, and commanded the Kimberley Mounted Corps in tbe relief of Mafeking (despatches three times).
Decorated: Dongola Expedition, 1896 (4th class Medjidie). South African Campaign, 1899-1900 (despatches thrice, Queen's medal, 5 clasps, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order).
