Alexander Kumanichkin was a Russian major general of aviation, participant of the Great Patriotic War and War in Korea, Hero of the Soviet Union (1944).

Background

Alexander Sergeevich was born on August 26, 1920 in the settlement Balanda, the Atkarsk district in the Saratov province (now Kalininskiy, Saratov, Russian Federation). He was born into a working-class family.

Education

Alexander Sergeevich graduated from the Borisoglebsk military aviation school of pilots in 1939, after graduation he started working there as an instructor pilot. Also, he graduated from the Academy of the General Staff in 1954.

Career

Alexander Sergeevich was a squadron commander of the 41st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (2nd Air Army, 1st Ukrainian Front). By November 1943, had made 196 sorties, had shot down 19 enemy aircraft in 36 air battles. After the Great Patriotic War Alexander commanded the aviation division. Since 1961, he was in the reserves.
