Alexandr Vasilievich Sokolov was born on August 28, 1906, in Kazinka, Belgorod Oblast, Russian Federation.
In 1927 Alexandr Vasilievich was sent to Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), where he entered the College of Performing Arts (now Russian State Institute of Performing Arts), in the class of director N.V. Petrov. After completing his studies at a technical school in 1930, he entered University Superstructure, which he graduated in 1933, having received the right to engage in professional directing. From 1931 to 1942 he taught acting.
In 1930-1934 and 1959-1988, the actor of Leningradsky Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin (now The Alexandrinsky Theatre), on the stage of which he played more than 50 roles.
Alexandr Vasilievich was married Valentina Kreschenko (actress, died in 1994). They had a son Sokolov German (1934-2006).
