(Do you know your lardo from your Le Creuset, your sous vi...)
Do you know your lardo from your Le Creuset, your sous vide from your silverside? If so look away now, this probably isn't the book for you! The Iconoclast's Guide to Foodies takes an irreverent look at those among us who take what they eat just a touch too seriously. With 50 entries examining some of the foodie's ultimate icons, it's the perfect way to understand those who strive for the tastiest, most exclusive, most sophisticated gastronomic experiences around. In other words, a show-off with nothing better to do than bleat about how much they love to eat! Each entry covers an aspect of a foodie's life: from the coveting of virgins - olive oil, of course - and the books they read through to traveling to the dingiest places in search of a truly authentic, locals-only experience - usually McDonalds - and the names they call their kids. So if you've ever wondered what your partner, friend, or sibling sees in spending hours trudging through muddy fields on a quest for an elusive mushroom when they could have just gone to the supermarket, or are bemused by their insistence on trying offal at every opportunity rather than sticking to steak, then these wise words provide sensible answers.

(This invaluable guide will help you make your way in poli...)
This invaluable guide will help you make your way in polite society. There comes a time in every girl's life where she has to leave behind the follies of youth and embrace adulthood. No longer can you get away with spending a Friday night necking bottles of cheap alcopops on a park bench until dawn, you must instead present a sophisticated, cultivated persona to the world. With so many terrible role models out there (we're looking at you Z-list celebrities, drunkenly photographed falling out of cabs and straight into the following day's papers), girls need a firm hand to guide them on the path to civility, and that's where How to be a Lady comes in. As morals become looser and manners become rarer, Alexandra Parsons attempts to redress the balance and have people behaving in far more appropriate ways. First up is How to Dress, featuring tips on presentability and helpful hints on choosing the right outfit for any social engagement. Next comes How to Behave in Public, explaining how to interact in polite society, whether it's at a dinner party or a hotel bar. The Ladylike Lifestyle chapter will teach you all you need to know about careers, relationships and family life. Finally, Speaking and Writing Like a Lady covers elocution, teaching people to pronounce their words properly, think before they speak, and deliver the killer quip.
