Career
In the 1896 election, he unsuccessfully contested the Hawke"s Bay electorate against the incumbent, William Russell. He was elected to the Napier electorate in the 1899 general election, which he represented to 1908 when he was defeated. In May 1918, he was appointed to the Legislative Council.
He served until his death on 24 February 1919.
