Two daughter Served on coast of Syria, 1840. Senior naval officer during Jamaica insurrection, 1865, and Fenian raids on Lakes of Canada, 1866. Aide-de-camp to Queen Victoria, 1871-1875.
Commodore in West. Indies, 1872-1875.
Commander-in-Chief, Pacific, 1876-1879. In the flagship Shah engaged Peruvian rebel iron-clad Huascar, forcing her to surrender to Peruvian authorities.
The Admiral’s action being questioned in Parliament, Sir J. Holker, Attorney-General, said, “Huascar having committed acts which made her an enemy of Great Britain, de Horsey was justified in what he did”. Commanded Channel Squadron, 1884-1885.
Retired list, 1892; Justice of the Peace Hampshire.
