Career
During the Ph.D. term worked on two industrial projects:
- November 2008 – December 2009. A joint project based on the data provided by the Norwegian oil and gas operator Statoil. The project was carried out in cooperation with the research company MARINTEK and researchers from the Montréal Business School. The project was related to the periodic supply vessel planning problem faced by Statoil. The problem consisted of simultaneously determining a repetitive weekly vessel sailing plan, made up of scheduled voyages, and the supply vessel fleet configuration required to perform these voyages. The project led to reduction in the number of supply vessels needed to serve the offshore installations due to improved voyage planning.
- December 2007 – June 2008. Applied project for the Norwegian offshore oil and gas operator Statoil. The project concerned the development of decision support system prototype to optimize the number of anchor handling vessels needed for relocations of offshore mobile drilling units. The project included formalization of the problem, development of solution method and user interface prototype as well as report preparation and presentation of the project results to the management. The project was carried out in cooperation with researchers from the Technical University of Catalonia and revealed the potential for certain cost savings.
