Alice graduated from Wilson College with a B.A. (magna cum laude) in 1957. She also received a Ph.D. from the American University in 1976. Drum also got the Certificate in Educational Management from Harvard University.
Alice worked as an adjunct professor of general studies at Antioch University, Columbia, Maryland in 1976-1978. The she was an adjunct assistant professor of English at Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) College between 1977 and 1980. She was also a lecturer in general studies at Georgetown University, Washington in 1980-1981 and a lecturer in general honors at University of Maryland, College Park in 1980-1983. Drum was an assistant professor of English at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland from 1981 until 1985, and a coordinator of writing program at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland in 1981-1983. Thereafter she worked as an associate dean of academic affairs at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland in 1983-1985 and as dean of freshmen, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 1985 until 1988. Since 1988 Drum has been vice president at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Alice was a member of Modern Language Association of America, American Association of Higher Education, American Council on Education, Association of American Colleges, College English Association, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Eastern Association of College Deans (president, 1988-1989), Northeast Modern Language Association, Phi Beta Kappa (president of Theta chapter, 1990-1991), Phi Kappa Phi. She was also a team member of Middle States Accreditation Association in 1989-1991.
Alice married Donald Richard Guise on June 15, 1957, but they divorced in August, 1975. The couple had 5 children: Gregory, Brent, Richard, Robert, Clay. Thereafter she married Ray Kenneth Drum on March 2, 1979. They have a child Trevor.
