Which tune does the daffodil play with its trumpet? Why does the dandelion sleep at night? Which bug does a frog like best? The Rabbit in the Moon is a book to be shared by today’s gardener and a beloved child. In addition to the main story which gives a new take on an old myth, the book delivers sound tips on how to stimulate a child’s imagination while creating a respect for the environment and a love of nature. Birth month flowers, flowers for each astrological sign, and plants for the night garden can all be found in this gardening book. “You don’t have to know all the answers to gardening,” says author Alice Twiggs Vantrease, “You only need to know the questions to ask.” You will find these questions and more in The Rabbit in the Moon. Alice Twiggs Vantrease grew up in South Carolina and spent her summers with her Grandmother Wright in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Following a normal liberal arts education, she received a degree in Confusion from the Institute of Marriage where major areas of interest were concentrated in diaper changing and cheese grits. She received a master’s degree in the School of Media Obfuscation where her thesis “The Importance of Type Squeezers in Newspaper Advertising” was solidly rejected. Final thesis topic was “Rejection: Why Salespeople Love Sales.” She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the School of Dirty Knees where her thesis “Advice to a New Gardener from a Used One” is under current review. The author claims to be a truly liberated woman: Her children are grown and the dog is finally housebroken. Now taking a sabbatical from the media and marketing rat race, she is pursuing her interest in writing and needlework. In addition to The Rabbit in the Moon, she is the author of Charlie’s Secret, a novel set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. She is currently working on a series of short stories.
