His extremely wide qualifications, his practical work for government and his busy academic career left him no time for a major treatise. However, his published articles and his teaching ensured a great reputation for
him among his contemporaries. Banking and currency were among the many specific areas on which he had worked, but before his early death he had begun a systematic treatise on economic theory.
