Alonzo thrasher keyt, M.D died suddenly, without premonition, from paralysis Of the heart, on the 9th of November, 1885, in the fifty-ninth year of his age. The post-mortem examination revealed calcareous granules in the segments, with incompetency of, the mitral valve, atheromatous degeneration in the heart and aorta, fatty and friable condition of the cardiac muscles, and dilata tion of the left cavities. These conditions pertain to ad vanced age, and Dr. Keyt was aged prematurely from over work. Besides attending to the demands of a large practice, he pursued unremittingly, from the commencement, his studies of the graphic method as applied to the circulatory apparatus, and in this labor of his love and life he was in sensible alike to the suggestions of hunger or fatigue. He was a patient, careful, conscientious worker, seeking only in his investigations to arrive at the truth. He put nothing forth hastily or upon impulse but only after mature deliberation, subjecting his conclusions to the most rigid scrutiny, and sparing no time or trouble to test their accuracy by all the means within his knowledge.
His life-work is ended, but its fruits remain. These are scattered throughout various medical journals in irregular contributions. It seemed fitting that this valuable material should be placed in more convenient and compact form, for the common benefit of the profession, and as a memorial of one who might well be selected as a model of the American physician and of all that constitutes a true man. Accord ingly it has been arranged in book form and in some order of sequence. Nothing more is assumed on the part of the editorial supervision than that it presents Dr. Keyt's work, in an available shape, to the profession.
