Ambrose Lukyanovich Metlinsky began literary activity in the 1830s, belonged to the school of romantic writers. The main poems of Metlinsky were published in the collection "Dumki i psni ta shche descho" (1839). He was the creator and publisher of the fifth edition of the literary "Southern Russian Collection" (1848), the folklore collection "Folk South Russian Songs" (Kiev, 1854). He was the professor of Kharkov and Kiev universities.
