Lieven, Anatolii Pavlovich, Prince was born on November 29, 1872 in Petersburg. Son of Prince Pavel Ivanovich Lieven, High Lord Chamberlain to Emperor Alexander II, and Head of Nobility of the Province of Livonia.

Graduated from Petersburg University, 1895.
Career
One of the first to mechanize his farms in the Baltic Provinces of Russia with the latest equipment. Took partin World War I as an officer of the Chevalier Guarde (Horse Guards). Awarded the British Military Cross for outstanding bravery in the East Prussian campaign.
Founder and 1st commander of a Russian Free Corps in the former Baltic Provinces of Russia. Participated in the capture of Riga in May 1919. Severely wounded and retired from further military activity.
