After graduating Giroux held a number of government posts in Quebec: publicist and secretary for the Department of Industry and Commerce (1945-1963), educational advisor and information director to the Quebec mission in Paris (1963-1966), and director-general of the Department of Cultural Affairs (1965-1977). A bureaucrat by day, Giroux spent his off-hours churning out award-winning literature. Giroux died following an automobile accident on July 24, 1977.
Andre Giroux married Rachel Turgeon in 1946. They had a daughter Renée.
