She began playing tennis at age nine. Temesvári joined the Women's Tennis Association Tour in 1981. She reached a high of World Number.

After several injuries, she made a comeback after dropping out of Top 25 for first time since 1983 in 1986. She returned to the tour at start of 1989 after a 20-month layoff due to ankle and shoulder injuries. She had two operations on ankle in March and September 1987 and then arthroscopic surgery on right shoulder in April 1988.
She retired in 1997.

She won the Italian Open at age sixteen, but injuries would later hamper her career. She received the Most Improved Player Award by Women's Tennis Association Tour and TENNIS Magazine in 1982. At the 1986 French Open she won the women"s doubles title with Martina Navratilova. She played for the Hungarian Federation Cup Team from 1983 to 1986, 1989 to 1990, and 1992. During her career she won a total of five singles titles and seven doubles titles.
