(In this book, Andrés Tijerina documents the two-way cultu...)
In this book, Andrés Tijerina documents the two-way cultural exchange in the years under the Mexican flag. It describes the basic institutions of Tejano life and culture, and it documents their transmission to the Anglo-American frontier. The work is a foundation for the study of the early Mexican-American culture in Texas and its influence on Texans of all ethnic backgrounds.

(A silent story is told by the stone chimneys of South Tex...)
A silent story is told by the stone chimneys of South Texas that were used to prepare the Tejano ranch meals of an earlier century and by the rifle port holes still seen in crumbling walls that once protected families. It is a story of a life and culture rarely portrayed in standard historical accounts, but to some degree kept alive in literary works and ballads and revealed mutely in the material culture nineteenth-century ranchers left behind.

(For two and a half centuries Tejanos have lived and ranch...)
For two and a half centuries Tejanos have lived and ranched on the land of South Texas, establishing many homesteads and communities. This modest book tells the story of one such family, the Sáenzes, who established Ranchos San José and El Fresnillo. Obtaining land grants from the municipality of Mier in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, these settlers crossed the Wild Horse Desert, known as Desierto Muerto, into present-day Duval County in the 1850s and 1860s.

(In a strong narrative voice, Building a Democratic Nation...)
In a strong narrative voice, Building a Democratic Nation: A History of the United States to 1877, Volume 1 tells stories of culture wars, nation building, freedom struggles, economic transformations, racial and ethnic pride, idealistic aspiration, human and environmental degradation, and technological advancement - just some of the many facets of American history. The dramatic narrative that unfolds in Building a Democratic Nation comes from two historian and teachers speaking to students with a unified engaging voice, unlike most college history books.
