Andrew Colin Gow was born on November 30, 1962 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Son of Harry William and Martine Denise (maiden name: Baugniet; present surname: Cooper) Gow.
Andrew attended Russell Public School, Russell, Ontario; T.P. Maxwell Public School, Glashan Public School, and Glebe Collegiate Institute, Ottawa, Ontario. He attended the University of Ottawa and graduated from Carleton University with his B.A. (with honors) in 1984. In 1988 he received his M.A. from the University of Toronto. In 1993 he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.
Gow has been a professor of History at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, since 1993. His first book "The Red Jews: Antisemitism in an Apocalyptic Age, 1200-1600" was published in 1995. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Brill Publishers' series "Studies in Medieval and Reformation Traditions" (since 2000).
He was a member of the Sixteenth Century Studies Association, Renaissance Studies Association, Fruehe Neuzeit Interdisziplinaer (member of board of directors).
Andrew married Heather Joan McAsh, on November 12, 1988. The couple has 2 children: Ezekiel Hart, Elspeth Sommer.
