Sih began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at Ohio State University in 1980. A year later he took the same position at Michigan State University. In 1982, Andrew was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California. Also he worked as an assistant professor at the University of Kentucky from 1982 to 1987.
In 1987, he became an associate professor at the University of Kentucky. Since 1991 Sih worked as a professor of biology at the University of Kentucky. Nowadays he is a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Sih is a member of Animal Behavior Society, American Society of Naturalists, Ecological Society of America, International Society of Behavioral Ecology and Society for Study of Evolution.
On October 14, 1983 Andrew Sih married Marie-Sylvie Baltus. They have a child.
