Andrey SHTOGARENKO, USSR Composer. Director, Kiev Conservatory, since 1954; Honoured Art Worker of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1947; board member, Ukrainia Union of Composers, since 1940. Order of Lenin, 1960; Order of Red Banner, 1948; two medals. Member, Communist Party, since 1944.

Background

SHTOGARENKO, Andrey was born in 1902 in village Novye Kaydaki, now Dnepropetrovsk Oblast.

Education

1916 graduated Yekaterinoslav School of Music. 1936 graduated composition class, Kharkov Conservatory.

Career

During Civil War performed in accordian ensemble. 1921-1927 singing instructor, at schools in Yekaterinoslav, now Dnepropetrovsk. 1926-1930 organizer and Artistic Director, of first Ukrainia Communist Youth League Accordian Ensemble.

1941-1945 Chief Secretary, Turkmenistan Union of Composers. 1947-1956 Deputy Chairman, Ukrainia Union of Composers. 1948-1957 Secretary, USSR Union of Composers.
