His commercial work expanded in the transition period surrounding the end of state socialism. He was director of Asian business relations at Przymierze Company in Warsaw from 1990 to 1991 and then headed the company's representative office in Nanjing from 1991 to 1994. He has also been associated with business cooperation between Poland and China, including efforts to establish relations between Szczecin Province and Chinese regions.
Since 1994, Zawadzki-Liang has worked as a marketing executive with Bloom Fortune Ltd. in Hong Kong. He has lived in China since 1988 and has subsequently worked as a lawyer, businessman, lecturer, writer, and commentator on Chinese affairs.
