Career
Born in Aversa, Italy, Mottola was ordained to the priesthood on April 2, 1960. Then, Mottola was named titular archbishop of Cercina and apostolic nuncio to Iran on June 16, 1999. He was ordained a bishop on September 21, 1999.
On January 25, 2007, Mottola was appointed apostolic nuncio to Montenegro and resigned on January 10, 2010.
