Tucker earned a BA in Art History from Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg, Virginia (1967), an AAS in Photographic Illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology, New York (1968), and an MFA in the History of Photography from VSW (of State University of New York), Rochester (1972).
A curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, since 1976, Tucker also served as an affiliate artist at the University of Houston from 1976 to 1979. She was a visiting lecturer at Philadelphia College of Art (1973-75) and directed the photography lecture series at Cooper Union Forum in New York City (1972-75).
A member of CAA and SPE, she served on the latter's national board from 1976 to the present and was its secretary from 1977 to 1979.
