Nieto holds a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering from Guanajuato School of Mines, a Mississippi in geo-statistics from Ecole Des Mines de Paris (Paris Technical), and a Mississippi and Doctor of Philosophy in earth-systems engineering from Colorado School of Mines.
Career
Before his current role Doctor Nieto worked at Penn State and Virginia Technical as professor of mining & minerals engineering. Nieto worked as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Technical and prior to his academic career he worked as a mining engineer in underground mining and surface mining. Nieto specializes in ore reserve estimation and mining methods at Penn State University.
His research focuses on mining operations and information technology, specifically in the areas of ore spatial characterization and real-time sensing systems
