He was chairman of the Hospital Trustees, a member of the Hospital Board, a member of the Harbour Board, and a board member of High School. He was chairman of the Education Board, a board member of Grammar School, and chairman of the board of advisers to the Teachers" Training College.
He held membership of the University College Council and was a member of the Council of Education.
