He was an assistant secretary with the Council for the Protection of Rural England, 1936–1940. He joined the British Broadcasting Corporation Monitoring Service in 1940. From 1946 to 1972 he worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation Radio Talks Department.
He produced The Week in Westminster as well as party political and election broadcasts between 1946 and 1966.
He was head of Radio Talks and Documentaries from 1967–1972.
