Arnd Krueger was born on July 1, 1944, in Muehlhausen, Germany. He is the son of Walter and Minna (Rose) Kruger.
Krueger earned his bachelor's degree in English from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1967 and his doctorate from the University of Cologne in Germany, specializing in Modern and Medieval History in 1971.
Krueger started his career, working for the German Sports Federation from 1971 to 1974, and the Berlin Teachers' Training College from 1974 to 1978. He has then taught part-time at the German National Coaching Academy and was an associate professor for Coaching and Movement Sciences at the University of Hamburg from 1978 to 1980.
Since 1980, Krueger is a full professor for Sports Studies and Chair of the Physical Education Department at the University of Goettingen and the head of the Society and Training Section. During his career, he has also served several times as Dean of the School of Social Sciences in Goettingen.
Krueger married Barbara Weber on November 11, 1972. The couple has 3 children: Julius, Myrthe and Noah.
